About Me

I’m Somnath, a Graphics Programmer with years of experience in console and PC development.

Most recently, I spent 4 years working on Ghost of Yotei at Sucker Punch Productions, a first-party studio under Sony Interactive Entertainment. I worked as a Graphics Programmer, optimizing rendering and engine performance, writing shaders and creating tools for artists.

Before that, I earned my Master’s in Computer Science at Georgia Tech, where I was a Graduate Researcher at the Computational Behavior Analysis Lab, working on human activity recognition using deep learning, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for algorithms and optimization courses. I competed in the ACM-ICPC Programming Contest from 2016 to 2021 and qualified for the World Finals with Georgia Tech in 2021. I’ve also had work experience as a Software Engineer at Microsoft, doing R&D as part of the Dynamics 365 team.

In my free time, I maintain a number of open-source projects including state-of-the-art texture compression libraries (openntc: Compressing textures by 95%+ with minimal loss of quality), a high-performance text rendering framework (lexkit: A trip through the text rendering pipeline, Optimizing text rendering), my self-developed rendering and game engines (Catalyst, Rally) as well as larger open-source programs in wide use (Godot).

My interests include Computer Graphics, Real-time Rendering, Neural Graphics, Game Engine Development and Deep Learning.
